How does eye-gaze technology work?
An eye-gaze camera tracks the person’s eye movements which then moves a mouse on a computer screen. The individual selects items by holding their gaze on the object for a period of time, or else blinking to select it.
Software is required to control eye-gaze technology. The software available ranges dependent upon an individual’s communication requirements.
The equipment needed is an eye-gaze camera which is attached to a computer or tablet, as well as a mounting system for a wheelchair or table of a suitable height.
How to access
Eye-gaze technology can vary in price dependent upon the individual features. This may be available on the NDIS. You will need to review speak with your support workers and service providers to determine this.
Eye-gaze technology is not suitable for everybody. It takes time to use the technology. Before considering whether it is will work for you, you should speak to your support crew.
