This coffee cake is a no-fuss recipe to bake. Simple to mix all ingredients in one bowl, and easy to clean up.
Ingredients
Butter for greasing125 g Butter3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed1 cup self-raising flour3 teaspoons instant coffee powder2 teaspoons vanilla essence2 eggs1/4 cup custard powder1/2 cup milkIcing
2 cups icing sugar2 tablespoons butter, soft2 teaspoons instant coffeeTools you need

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Grease the cake tin.
Combine all ingredients in the medium bowl of an electric mixer. Beat on low speed until combined. Then, increase the speed to medium and beat until the mixture is smooth.
Spoon the mixture into the prepared cake tin. Bake for about 40 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the cake comes out clean. Remove from the oven wearing oven gloves.
Stand a few minutes to cool slightly before turning onto a wire rack to cool.
Ice cake.
Icing Method
Combine icing sugar and butter in a bowl and blend. Add coffee with a teaspoon of hot water to blend. Cream thoroughly until smooth.
