If bangers and mash is your idea of comfort food, then this easy main meal is sure to be a hit. Sausages, a thick gravy and a potato topping, it can also be a cheat cottage pie.

Method
Heat the oil in the frypan, and add the sausages. Cook until well browned and cooked through. Remove from the pan and drain on paper towels. Cut the sausages into 2cm thick slices. Set aside.
Add onions to the frypan, and cook, stirring until browned. Add flour and keep stirring until well browned. Remove from the heat. Gradually add the water, stock cubes, and barbeque sauce. Stir over heat until the mixture boils and thickens. Stir in the chopped sausages to coat.
Spoon the mixture into the oven-proof dish. Spread with the potato cheese topping. Sprinkle with a little thyme. Bake in a 180-degree celsius oven for about 20 minutes or until well browned.

While sausages are browning, boil the potatoes in a saucepan with water until tender. Drain the water off.
Mash potatoes and add the cheese and milk.
